The Black Clover OVA and stage play

Black Clover was animated a year before the television series: an OVA at Jump Festa that shipped inside volume 11.

The first Black Clover anime was not the Pierrot series. Studio Xebec Zwei animated an original video animation directed by Takashi Noto, premiered at Jump Festa on November 27, 2016, when the manga was barely a year old. Its 27 minutes reached homes on May 2, 2017, on a DVD bundled with the limited edition of volume 11, which makes that volume the shelf piece of the whole OVA story.

The side pieces kept coming. A special episode, The All Magic Knights Thanksgiving Festa, screened at Jump Festa 2018. The chibi comedy Squishy! Black Clover, by DLE under director Tsukasa Nishiyama, ran eight short episodes in the summer of 2019. And in September 2023 the series reached the stage: a theatrical play with Keisuke Ueda as Asta, running September 14 to 18 at Theatre 1010 in Tokyo and September 22 to 24 at the Kanagawa Arts Theatre.
