What City Hunter video games are there?

For thirty-six years there was exactly one City Hunter console game. In 2026 it came back.

For thirty-six years there was exactly one: Sunsoft’s City Hunter for the PC Engine, released in Japan on March 2, 1990. Publisher Red Art Games, announcing its return, calls it what it is: the sole official video game adaptation of the franchise ever released on consoles. An original side story drawn from the anime’s first season, it sends Ryo against a sinister megacorporation in side-scrolling sweeps through the city he usually walks in panels.

The only other playable Ryo of the era is a guest: he joined Bandai Namco’s Jump crossover fighter Jump Force in 2019, Python and all, fighting beside Goku and Luffy at conventions of Shonen Jump history.

Then the 40th anniversary brought the real news. Clouded Leopard Entertainment and Red Art Games remastered the 1990 game: digital release February 26, 2026 for Switch 2, Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam, with the first localisation in the game’s history, English, French, Italian, German and Spanish, plus rewind, save states, a CRT filter, a gallery with 3D models of the original 1990 box, card and manual, and a music player carrying “Get Wild”. Two new modes rework it: Enhanced fixes the original’s issues; Hard rebalances everything and adds a new sequence.

What else is playable

The original
PC Engine, March 2, 1990
Japan-only for 36 years: no port, no sequel, no localisation, until the remaster. Scarcity made the little HuCard a collector’s piece in its own right.
Jump Force
2019
Ryo as a guest fighter in the Shonen Jump anniversary brawler: the sweeper’s only other playable appearance.
The modes
Faithful, Enhanced, Hard
The remaster ships the 1990 game three ways: as it was, as it should have been, and harder than it ever was, with a gameplay sequence that did not exist in 1990.
