Diablo comics

Three eras of Diablo comics, and one identity worth fixing: the 2011 DC series and Sword of Justice are the same work.

Diablo comics begin with Tales of Sanctuary, a 2001 Dark Horse paperback graphic novel of three stories, Rage, The Hand of Naz and Hatred's Bride, written by Dave Land and Phil Amara with art by Francisco Ruiz Velasco and others. It is catalogued at 9781569716823, is out of print, and is sometimes listed as Diablo II: Tales of Sanctuary in library records.

The second era is the one most often miscounted. The five issue series DC Comics published from November 2011, written by Aaron Williams with art by Joseph Lacroix, IS Sword of Justice; the two names describe one work, not two series. The single issues carry UPC barcodes only and have no ISBNs, which the census records honestly as null rather than inventing numbers. The collected edition is where the ISBNs live: DC, July 2013, 9781401244972, and a Blizzard reissue in 2021 at 9781950366446.

The third era is Blizzard's own Diablo Legends graphic novel line, original hardcovers of 80 pages. Legends of the Barbarian: Bul-Kathos, by John Arcudi and Geraldo Borges, 2023, is US 9781950366965 and UK Titan 9781803366135. Legends of the Necromancer: Rathma, by Fred Kennedy and Adam Gorham, July 16, 2024, is 9781956916270.

The line continues: Dawn of Hatred, by Cullen Bunn and Daniele Serra, collects the 2026 Titan Comics series plus the Free Comic Book Day 2025 special in a collected edition at 9781785865893, dated November 17, 2026 and therefore forthcoming at census time. Its single issues, like the DC ones before them, carry no ISBNs.

No Japanese editions of the Diablo comics were recorded in the census. The comics, like the novels and tomes, are an English language programme in US and UK editions.
