Diablo short fiction and anthologies

Four collections and one e-novella, including the two digital only works that collectors keep hunting for in a print form that does not exist.

Diablo's short fiction starts with Diablo III: Heroes Rise, Darkness Falls, a 2012 anthology from Gallery Books at 9781416550907, with stories by Micky Neilson, James Waugh, Cameron Dayton, Matt Burns, Michael Chu and Erik Sabol, each built around one of Diablo III's hero classes. It was an ebook anthology, a scope surprise in the census because it sits outside the novel sequence most bibliographies list.

The second digital only work is Morbed by Micky Neilson, a 2014 e-novella at 9781476789460, following the thief Morbed, a character who recurs in the fiction's margins. Both works matter to completists and both carry the same collecting warning: they were published as ebooks, so there is no first print edition to hunt, and any physical copy offered is a print on demand or unofficial object, not a publisher's edition.

Print short fiction arrives with Tales from the Horadric Library in 2022, edited by Barbara Moore with stories by Courtney Alameda, Delilah S. Dawson, Brian Evenson, Adam Foshko, Matthew J. Kirby, Barry Lyga, Tamsyn Muir and Catherynne M. Valente among others. The US Blizzard hardcover is 9781950366798 and the UK Titan hardcover is 9781803361659. It is the strongest single volume of Diablo short fiction and the natural gift form of the line.

Its successor is Shadows of Sanctuary, a 2025 collection with stories by Alma Katsu, Jonathan Maberry, Z Brewer, Ryan Quinn and Carly Anne West. The census records the Titan ISBN 9781835414415 from trade listings and the US Blizzard ISBN 9781956916645 from its Bookshop.org product identifier, both carried here exactly as recorded.

No Japanese editions of any of these collections exist. Short fiction completes the pattern of the whole Diablo bibliography: a large, current, English only book programme, verified title by title.
