How can you collect Slayers in English?

For twelve years English Slayers stopped at volume 8. Then a digital-first publisher retranslated all seventeen from scratch.

The English novel line has two distinct generations. Tokyopop published volumes 1–8 between September 7, 2004 and January 2, 2008, then stopped, leaving the entire second arc untranslated. J-Novel Club announced a rescue license at Anime Expo Lite on July 3, 2020: a fresh translation (by Elizabeth Ellis), released digitally first and completed with volume 17 on January 4, 2023.

In print, J-Novel Club’s Collector’s Edition hardcovers bind three novels per book, following Japan’s 2008 revised edition and its new Araizumi covers. The line began in July 2021 and reached Volume 5 (novels 13–15) in 2024; the two revival novels, 16 and 17, remain digital-only in English for now. The audiobooks are narrated by Lisa Ortiz, Lina’s original English voice.

THE TWO EDITIONS

Novels in English
Tokyopop (2004–2008) · volumes 1–8
Paperback, first translation, retitled per volume (The Ruby Eye, The Sorcerers of Atlas…). Out of print; the only English version of the first arc for sixteen years, and the only one most 2000s readers met.
J-Novel Club digital (2020–2023) · volumes 1–17
The complete main series in English for the first time, pre-published in chapters and then as e-books, two years ahead of the print program.
Collector’s Edition hardcovers (2021– ) · 3-in-1
Hardcover omnibuses based on the 2008 revised Japanese text, with the redrawn Araizumi covers. Five volumes take the set through novel 15.

THE REST OF THE SHELF

Manga, anime, and the gaps
Manga · CPM (1999–2005)
Central Park Media published Medieval Mayhem, the Special manga, seven volumes of Super-Explosive Demon Story, and Premium. All long out of print; Knight of the Aqualord and the later manga were never licensed.
Anime · Funimation and Crunchyroll
Funimation rescued the TV series from CPM and released all five seasons; the films and OVAs were ADV Films titles. The anime is the easiest Slayers to collect whole.
Never in English
The thirty Special novels, Smash, Delicious, the radio dramas, and all five video games. The English shelf, even now, is the main story only.
