How many volumes of Yu Yu Hakusho are there?
The core answer is 19. Togashi's 175 chapters were collected by Shueisha into 19 Jump Comics tankobon between 1991 and 1994, and Viz's English edition preserves the same 19 volume structure. Volume 1 opens with Yusuke's death and the early Spirit Detective cases; volume 19 closes the Demon World tournament and the epilogue. Any complete standard set, in either language, is those 19 books.
The second real number is 15. The Japanese kanzenban complete edition of 2004 and 2005 repackaged the same chapters into 15 larger volumes with new covers, so a complete deluxe Japanese set counts to 15, not 19. Sellers moving between formats in one listing are the main source of bad counts in this series' secondhand market.
Inflated totals come from the satellite books. The series generated official databooks and character guides, anime film comics, novelizations and art collections, all shelved beside the manga in Japanese bookstores and bundled into export lots. A 25 book Yu Yu Hakusho lot is usually 19 manga volumes plus guides and anime books, which is fine if priced as such and misleading if sold as 25 volumes of manga.
The anime does not change the manga count: its extra stories, including the 2018 specials Two Shots and All or Nothing, were adapted from short manga Togashi drew, and those stories are collected in volume 19's material in Japanese editions. They add chapters, not volumes.
So the collector's check is one question: which edition is being counted? Nineteen means tankobon, fifteen means kanzenban, and anything above nineteen means the lot includes books that are not the manga. Pricing should follow that breakdown, since the kanzenban set, book for book, is the premium object despite the smaller number.
