How the CE box physically differs — verified, and commonly misstated: Wikipedia states North American pre-order customers "received a limited-edition box with a golden plastic card reading 'Collector's Edition'" — i.e.

the distinction is a golden plastic card affixed to the box front, plus the gold-coloured cartridge inside (cart code NUS-CZGE-USA, always ROM v1.0), not a wholly different printed box illustration. Contemporary collector summaries describe the CE front as reflective/gold in appearance versus the standard front. Same UPC as the standard edition (045496870041) — UPC cannot separate CE from standard; the card, the gold cart, and the cart code can.
