Angel's Egg, the 1985 Oshii and Amano OVA, Gets a Collector's 4K Edition

Anime Limited released a Collector's Blu-ray of Angel's Egg on November 2, 2026. The 1985 OVA, directed by Mamoru Oshii with art by Yoshitaka Amano, is one of the strangest and most beautiful objects in anime history, and for most of its life it has been one of the hardest to own well.
The Collector's Edition carries the film on both 4K UHD and standard Blu-ray; a standard edition is also available. The 4K restoration is a new scan of a 35mm negative, supervised by Oshii.
The printed extras are the Amano half of the package: the set adds interviews with Amano, and with Oshii and Amano together, four art cards, and a 24-page booklet. For a film whose reputation rests almost entirely on its images, the paper goods are not filler here. They are the point.
A 40-year-old cult OVA getting a supervised 4K restoration with art cards and a booklet is a textbook collector-edition event for retro anime physical media. Editions like this reset what a definitive copy means, and they pull fresh eyes toward the original Japanese physical releases that came before.
On the shelf: Amano's other defining work is documented in the Library's Vampire Hunter D shelf, including what he did for that series across four decades.
