The Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 Sold Out on Day One

On October 29, 2026, Nintendo released the Nintendo Switch 2, The Legend of Zelda, 40th Anniversary Edition, a console carrying Triforce motifs across the system, the dock, and the Joy-Con 2 controllers. No game is included. The Japanese price is ¥62,980 (~$399); the US price is $519.99.
The hardware did not launch alone. A matching 40th Anniversary Pro Controller, including a Nintendo Store exclusive version that comes with a display stand, and a carrying case arrived the same day, which makes the set a small collection in its own right from day one.
Launch stock sold through immediately at major retailers. Nintendo has said more inventory is on the way, so this is a sellout with a restock promised, not a one-and-done limited run.
The timing sharpens it. This console landed one week before the Ocarina of Time remake arrives on Switch 2, so Zelda hardware, Zelda software, and forty years of series history are all peaking in the same two-week window.
Anniversary-edition hardware with a same-day sellout is a direct demand signal for Zelda 40th merchandise across the board. When the console itself is the collectible, everything around the anniversary, controllers, cases, and the older physical games behind them, gets pulled into the same spotlight.
On the shelf: the full Zelda shelf in the Library, and this week's other Zelda date on the Calendar.
