What English editions of Soul Eater exist?
Soul Eater was a foundation title for Yen Press, the manga imprint founded in 2006. Yen serialized the manga in its Yen Plus magazine from 2008 and published the collected volumes from 2009, completing all 25 volumes in English in 2015. For a generation of North American readers, the Yen volumes, with their translation notes and lettering, are simply what Soul Eater is.
Yen also completed the Ohkubo shelf in English: all five volumes of Soul Eater NOT! and all four volumes of B. Ichi, making English one of the few languages where the author's full early career is available in print. That completeness matters to collectors, because the Japanese and English sets can be assembled to mirror each other volume for volume.
The premium option is the Perfect Edition, published in English by Square Enix Manga from 2020. It collects the series in 17 larger format volumes with new cover illustrations by Ohkubo, restored color pages from the magazine serialization and revised presentation, the publisher's definitive edition format used for its evergreen titles.
Choosing between editions is a use decision. The Yen singles preserve the original 25 cover designs and the period reading experience at the lowest cost per shelf; the Perfect Edition is the art object, better paper, bigger art, new covers, and the set most new collectors now start with when stock allows.
Availability shifts with reprints, and both lines have cycled in and out of stock since their launches. The Library records editions as documented so far and advises buyers to confirm volume numbers and edition lines in listing photos, since single and Perfect volumes of the same arc are easy to confuse in thumbnails.
