Who are the key supporting characters in Soul Eater?
Franken Stein is the academy's strongest meister and its most unstable adult: a scientist who sees the world as an experiment, stitches on his face and a screw through his head that he turns when he thinks. He is comic relief, mentor and horror figure in rotation, and his own flirtation with madness gives the theme a face inside the school's walls.
Medusa Gorgon is the series' defining villain, a witch who infiltrated the academy as its nurse while engineering the Kishin's release and experimenting on her own child. That child, Crona, wielder of the demon sword Ragnarok and carrier of black blood, is the manga's most tragic figure, written as a study of abuse and fear whose fate divides the anime and manga endings more than any other thread.
Spirit Albarn, Maka's father and Lord Death's current Death Scythe, carries the family story: a gifted weapon and a faithless husband whose divorce and desperate devotion to his daughter give Maka her distrust of men and her drive to build a Death Scythe of her own in Soul. His comedy is loud; his function is structural.
