What are the Berserk Deluxe Editions?
Fourteen black hardcovers, three volumes apiece: the monument edition.
In February 2019 Dark Horse began reissuing Berserk in the form the art had always asked for: oversized hardcovers, roughly seven by ten inches, each gathering three Japanese volumes under a uniform black binding. Fourteen volumes later, in November 2023, the run reached the end of Miura’s own work.
THE RUN
Dark Horse · 2019 to 2023
Deluxe Volume 14 gathers this…
The fourteenth and latest deluxe collects Japanese volumes 40 and 41, the final stretch of Miura’s chapters.
…and this
Volume 41, the farewell book of December 2021, closes the deluxe run’s story content. A third text fills the hardcover out.
The guidebook in the back
Where a third manga volume would go, Deluxe 14 carries the Berserk Official Guidebook instead: profiles, interviews, and Miura’s own itemised account of his influences. The monument ends with the author explaining himself.
DELUXE OR SINGLES
Two ways to shelve the same storyWhat the deluxe changes
Page size, above all. Miura’s double-page spreads and crowd scenes were drawn for a larger stage than the B6 Japanese tankobon gives them; the deluxe trim restores the scale, in hardcover, at hardcover weight.
What it keeps
The reading direction stays right-to-left, the art untouched, and the Japanese volume structure survives inside the mapping: each deluxe is exactly three singles, so the two editions shelve in parallel.
Where it stops
At volume 41, deliberately or not, the deluxe line currently ends where Miura’s hand ends. The continuation volumes, 42 and 43, exist so far only as Japanese singles and English paperbacks.
