What are the other Evangelion manga spinoffs?

Beyond Sadamoto's manga and Angelic Days, the main spinoffs are The Shinji Ikari Raising Project, Campus Apocalypse, The Shinji Ikari Detective Diary, and the chibi comedy Petit Eva, most of them lighter alternate world stories.

Evangelion generated an unusual number of manga spinoffs because its characters proved more durable than its plot. The longest running is The Shinji Ikari Raising Project by Osamu Takahashi, an 18 volume alternate world series in which Shinji and Asuka grow up as neighbours under the eye of NERV scientists, played largely as romantic comedy. It was published in English by Dark Horse Comics.

Campus Apocalypse, by Ming Ming, takes the opposite route: a four volume dark fantasy in which Shinji receives an Evangelion-like power at a Catholic school and the Angels arrive as beautiful, lethal students. The Shinji Ikari Detective Diary, two volumes by Takumi Yoshimura, recasts the cast in a detective agency story. Petit Eva, drawn in a super deformed style, strips the setting down to schoolyard gags and exists mainly for readers fluent in the franchise's iconography.

Not everything reached English. Several spinoffs and anthology volumes stayed in Japan, and release patterns differ sharply by publisher and era: ADV Manga handled Angelic Days, Dark Horse handled the Raising Project and Campus Apocalypse, and Viz holds the main Sadamoto manga. A spinoff's English publisher is therefore one of the fastest ways to date and place an edition.

Collecting advice for this corner is mostly about expectations. Spinoff volumes were printed for the manga boom market and are common in Japanese bookstores, while English volumes from smaller publishers had shorter print lives. Complete English sets of the shorter series, especially Campus Apocalypse, are the pieces that take patience, and condition varies widely because these were reading copies, not shelf pieces.
