What is Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable?

The licence’s oldest promise kept: the gear moves when you do.

Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable, developed by UNIVRS, is a first-person action game for Meta Quest headsets that maps the vertical maneuvering gear to your own arms: fire anchors, pump the swing, draw blades, take the nape. Announced in December 2022 for the following summer, it slipped, as ambitious VR does, and reached players in early access in December 2024, built out in parts with cooperative play added to the solo campaign.

It was not the franchise’s first step into the medium: a location-based VR attraction ran in Tokyo in 2018, at the height of the anime’s fame, and Unbreakable is best understood as that installation’s ambition made domestic. On this site’s shelf it completes a pattern across thirty years of licensed games: every hardware generation gets the same design brief (be the scout, feel the wire) and answers it with whatever the machine allows. The 3DS answered with buttons. The Quest answers with your shoulders.
