What is DCMC in Mother 3?

DCMC, the Desperado Crush Mambo Combo, is the resident band of Club Titiboo in Mother 3, a five-piece in matching style: OJ on saxophone, Magic on guitar, Baccio on drums, Shimmy Zmizz on keyboards, and on bass a quiet man called Lucky, who is in fact Duster, the thief of Tazmily Village, living amnesiac among the musicians after the story's three-year gap.

The band is not decoration. Their Chapter 4 concert is the engine of the plot's middle act, the occasion that reunites Lucas with Duster and pulls the story toward the Pork Army's machinery, and they return in New Pork City at the climax, where their performance quite literally brings down the house on the Mecha-Porky robots.

Their music escaped the game. The Theme of D.C.M.C. is a headline track on the arranged album Mother 3+, one of the score's signature pieces, all brass and swagger in Shogo Sakai's 250-track score, and the band's name follows Itoi's habit of hiding real feeling inside absurd names: the comic surface, the emotional payload.

For the shelf, DCMC is the series' third great musical idea made visible: Mother hid a song in the world, EarthBound recorded one in a stone, and Mother 3 put a working band on stage and made them characters.
