What is Saint Seiya: Next Dimension?

The sequel Kurumada drew himself, in full colour, for eighteen years.

Saint Seiya: Next Dimension is the canonical continuation: written and drawn by Masami Kurumada, published by Akita Shoten in Weekly Shonen Champion. A prologue ran on April 27, 2006 and the series proper began that August; it then appeared in irregular bursts, as health and schedule allowed, until it concluded on July 4, 2024. Sixteen volumes collect it. Unusually for a weekly manga, it is drawn entirely in colour.

THE STORY’S SHAPE

Two centuries at once
The premise
After the Hades war, Athena and her Saints reach back to the Holy War of the 1700s to break Hades’ curse on Seiya. The narrative alternates centuries: the previous Pegasus, Tenma, and a thirteenth Gold Saint, Ophiuchus, enter a mythology the original series only hinted at.
The twin of Lost Canvas
Next Dimension and The Lost Canvas began the same season, telling the same war from the same prompt, one by the creator and one by his chosen successor. Publishing history rarely offers so clean an experiment.
The long road
Eighteen years for sixteen volumes is the fact of the book: chapters arrived in short seasons separated by long silences. Readers in Japan bought patience along with the story, and the 2024 finale closed the longest-running thread in the franchise.

WHAT FOLLOWS IT

The story continues
Heaven Chapter · 2026
Kurumada did not stop at the ending. A further series, Saint Seiya: Heaven Chapter (Tenkai-hen), opened in Weekly Shonen Champion on May 14, 2026, taking the Saints toward the heavens the 2004 film once promised to show.
The short chapters
Alongside the sequel, Kurumada published Episode Zero (2017–18), Origin and Destiny (2018–19) in Champion Red: short, dense returns to the original cast. Episode Zero is collected inside volume 1 of the Final Edition.
