What is the Egghead arc?
Egghead Island is a deliberate palette break after Wano: a retro-future of dome cities, holograms, and robot sea beasts from the mind of Vegapunk, the scientist whose name the series had invoked since early on for Devil Fruit research, Pacifista, and the Marines' technology. The arc splits him into six satellite bodies plus the elderly Stella, a joke about bandwidth that becomes a genuine narrative device as the Government's assassination plot closes in.
The arc is an information detonation by design. Vegapunk's research into the Void Century, the reveal that the world is sinking into the sea, the ancient kingdom's story, and Kuma's full backstory, the Buccaneer slave turned cyborg whose memories Bonney relives in the manga's most praised flashback of the modern run, convert decades of hints into stated fact. The Final Saga's contract with the reader is that mysteries now resolve faster than they multiply.
Structurally Egghead also runs the series' widest cross-cutting: while the island falls under a Buster Call led by Admiral Kizaru and one of the Five Elders in person, chapters cut to world-shaking events elsewhere, Shanks, Blackbeard, Garp at Hachinosu, the Revolutionary Army, so the arc reads as the world converging. Its volumes begin at 106, and the anime's adaptation adopted a refreshed visual style from 2024 that makes Egghead the easiest modern arc to identify on sight.
For the shelf, Egghead is where a current collection must decide its format future: the Japanese volumes are the live edge of the series, English volumes trail by months, and the arc's key chapters carried color pages and magazine covers that Jump collectors are already isolating. The Library's series-status page tracks where the Final Saga stands.
