What is the Vagabond Definitive Edition?

The 2025 hardcover: Vagabond printed at the size its art always asked for.

The Definitive Edition is Viz Media's premium English edition of Vagabond, announced in May 2024 and published from January 21, 2025. It collects the manga three tankobon to a volume, as the VIZBIG line did, but as large-trim hardcovers, with a textured cover design: black cloth above, gold brush calligraphy, a red band, and one of Inoue's ink portraits below.

It is best understood as the English market finally building the book the Japanese art books promised in 2006: Vagabond not as a paperback to read on a train, but as an object to keep. Whether it completes the run, all thirty-seven volumes and the five uncollected chapters beyond them, is the question every collector is watching.

Viz announced the Definitive Edition in May 2024 and launched it on January 21, 2025. Each hardcover collects three tankobon, like the VIZBIG line, but at a true large trim, 7.5 by 10 inches, with a textured cover design that treats the book as the art object the art books always said it was.
