What Is Tou no Sho, the Third Naruto Databook?
The headline material is the post-timeskip stat refresh. The young cast's growth is quantified in the same chart language Rin no Sho introduced, which makes Tou no Sho the baseline for every Part II comparison debate. Sakura's leap, Sasuke's post-Orochimaru numbers and the Akatsuki members' near-maxed charts are the pages fans photographed and translated first, and they remain the era's reference standard.
The book also widens the documentary scope: tailed beast and jinchuriki documentation as the plot revealed it, village-by-village material beyond the Leaf, and jutsu records for the new techniques of Part II, from the Rasenshuriken's classification to the Akatsuki's signature methods. Kishimoto's notes continue to be the quiet treasure, explaining design and naming choices the manga never pauses for.
Tou no Sho's position in the line is the middle child problem in reverse: it is the most consulted of the four because its coverage, the Akatsuki era's opening, is the stretch of Part II most rewatched and replayed in the Storm games. Its 2008 publication also places it before the Pain assault rewrote the power scale, so it freezes a balance the story was about to break on purpose.
Collectors shelve it as book three of four, between Hyo no Sho's Part I capstone and Jin no Sho's finale volume a full six years later. The gap after Tou is itself notable: the war era ran so long that the fourth databook had to wait for the ending, making Tou the reference of record for a long stretch of the series' life.
Book facts
Tou no Sho (Book of Tou), Shueisha, 2008. Coverage: Part II through about volume 43. Highlights: post-timeskip stat charts, full Akatsuki profiles, jinchuriki documentation.
Collector note
The most consulted databook of the four. Complete copies with obi are the standard; heavy-use copies are common because this was a working reference for a generation of readers.
