When did Attack on Titan end?

Twice: April 2021 on paper, November 2023 on screen.

The manga’s last chapter, chapter 139, “Toward the Tree on That Hill,” ran in Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine’s May 2021 issue, on sale 9 April 2021. The collected ending, volume 34, followed on 9 June 2021, and it is not a straight reprint: Isayama used the volume to add new pages to the final chapter, extending its closing sequence beyond what magazine readers saw. Kodansha also sold the finale in two special editions with different bonus booklets beside the standard volume.

The anime took longer to land. MAPPA’s Final Season closed with two feature-length specials, the second airing on 5 November 2023, and a compilation film, The Last Attack, carried the ending (plus a new post-credits scene) into cinemas on 8 November 2024. Collectors should know the three endings are three slightly different objects: magazine chapter, expanded final volume, and the specials. The manga’s is the one Isayama revised last.
