Who created Wolf's Rain?

Keiko Nobumoto created it, and she brought the Cowboy Bebop band back together to make it.

Keiko Nobumoto created Wolf's Rain and wrote it, serving as its story editor. She came to it as one of the defining writers of Cowboy Bebop, and Wolf's Rain was her chance to build a whole world of her own: she has said she was drawn to the two faces of the wolf, noble and dignified in folklore, violent and real in nature, and to the conflict between them.

Around her, Bones reassembled the Bebop circle. Toshihiro Kawamoto, who designed Cowboy Bebop's characters, designed these. Yoko Kanno, who scored Bebop, scored this. Director Tensai Okamura admitted in interview that he was not always sure he understood Nobumoto's intention, and that the human pursuers, Hubb and Quent, were his way into her story. That tension, her myth and his ground level view, is much of the show's texture.

THE FOUR NAMES

Creator, director, designer, composer
Keiko Nobumoto

Character designs. The man who drew Spike Spiegel drew Kiba, in both shapes.
Yoko Kanno
Music, composed, arranged, and produced. Her second great animal elegy in five years, after Bebop's jazz.

AT THE LIBRARY

The Bebop shelf
The Bebop connection
The Library keeps its own Cowboy Bebop shelf, including why Bebop's music matters so much to that show. Wolf's Rain is the same argument in a minor key. Read why Cowboy Bebop's music is so important alongside the music pages here.
