Witcher hardcovers, illustrated editions and box sets

Paperbacks are the reading form. This page is about the objects: what the hardcovers and boxes actually are and how to identify them.

Beyond the paperbacks, the Witcher exists in three shelf forms. The first is the illustrated hardcover line, of which the census verifies The Last Wish illustrated hardcover at 9780316333528. These are the gift and display editions of the story collections, larger format with commissioned illustration, and they are identified by their own ISBNs, distinct from every paperback printing.

The second form is Orbit's 2022 hardcover run of the saga, issued alongside the new edition paperbacks. Verified examples in the census include Blood of Elves at 9780316453363 and The Lady of the Lake at 9780316457132, with Baptism of Fire's hardcover at 9780316456906. A hardcover listing should be checked against these numbers, because sellers routinely photograph a hardcover and paste a paperback description, ISBN and all.

The third form is the boxed set. The Stories box, 9780316565165, contains The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny. The Saga box, 9780316498845, contains the five novels from Blood of Elves to The Lady of the Lake. Together the two boxes are the complete pre 2025 series in uniform Orbit paperback, which is why they are the standard recommendation for a new collector who wants a matched shelf in one decision.

Crossroads of Ravens stands outside all three forms for now: a hardcover first release at 9780316597739, published September 30, 2025, not part of either box and not yet part of the 2022 style paperback run at census verification. A boxed set claiming to contain all nine books should be read carefully; the verified boxes contain seven.

None of these forms changes the text. They change paper, boards, art and shelf presence, which for this Library's collector angle is exactly the point: identify the object by its ISBN, then decide what the object is worth to your shelf.
