The standalone novels: Season of Storms and Crossroads of Ravens

Two books, two kinds of standalone: one slips between the early stories, one goes back before all of them.

Season of Storms, published in Polish in 2013 and in English later, is set in the gaps of The Last Wish era: Geralt loses his swords in the kingdom of Kerack and is pulled through a chain of thefts, experiments and sea monsters. The current standard US edition is the Orbit trade paperback of July 5, 2022, at 9780316453165; the Gollancz UK paperback of 2020 is 9781473231139. Its Japanese Hayakawa edition of November 18, 2024 is 9784150206239.

Crossroads of Ravens is the newer and bigger event. Published in Polish on November 29, 2024, it follows a young Geralt fresh from Kaer Morhen, and its English edition, translated by David French, was published on September 30, 2025 as a hardcover first release at 9780316597739. It is book nine, a standalone prequel, and it is published, not forthcoming, a point this page states plainly because early reporting treated it as upcoming long after release.

The Japanese edition of Crossroads of Ravens is part of the same story: Hayakawa published it at 9784150206291 on September 30, 2025, the same day as the English edition, in a 21 country simultaneous release. Few modern fantasy novels have had a Japanese edition land day and date with the English one, and for a Japanese edition collector this is the Witcher volume to own.

Format separates the two standalones on a shelf. Season of Storms matches the 2022 paperback run; Crossroads of Ravens is currently a hardcover first release, with Hachette listing a trade paperback format whose distributor ISBN, 9780316597746, is recorded in the census as a listing value rather than the verified primary identifier. The verified number for the book in hand today is the hardcover, 9780316597739.

Reading order for both is on the reading order page: after the saga, where their early settings read as commentary and origin rather than as prerequisites.
