The 3-in-1 editions: the in print way to collect it

All 38 volumes in 13 books, volume one at 9781421579245. The singles are history; this is the edition you can actually buy new.

Viz's Yu-Gi-Oh! 3-in-1 Edition, published 2015 to 2018 in 13 volumes, reprints the complete 38 volume original series three volumes at a time. Volume one, collecting the first three original volumes, is 9781421579245, verified on Viz's own product page. The census records the 3-in-1 as the currently in print form of Takahashi's series, with the single volumes out of print in distributor catalogues.

The arithmetic is the appeal. Thirty eight out of print singles, split across three shelf names, become thirteen uniform books under one name. For a reader, that is the difference between a hunt and an order. The 3-in-1s use the standard Viz omnibus format of the period: larger page count per book, thinner paper than the singles, and a lower price per original volume than any other English form.

What is lost is also specific. The singles carry the original volume covers as covers, one per volume, and the three historical title treatments, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Duelist and Millennium World, as published artefacts. The 3-in-1s subordinate those covers to a uniform omnibus design. Collectors of the series as an object still want the singles; readers of the series as a story are better served here.

No Japanese omnibus equivalent is recorded for this edition in the census; the 3-in-1 is an English language Viz format. The Japanese originals remain the 38 Jump Comics volumes beginning at 9784088723112.

The buying guidance is therefore clean. Start or complete a reading set with the 3-in-1s, checking the omnibus volume number rather than the original volume numbers it contains. Hunt singles only for the volumes that matter to you personally, and expect Duelist and Millennium World singles to be the harder half of that hunt.
