Zelda manga: Four Swords

Japanese GameCube box art for The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures
The Japanese GameCube box art for Four Swords Adventures — the game this manga adapts.
Viz volumes 6 and 7, 9781421523323 and 9781421523330: the four Link comedy adventure that became a fan favourite.

Himekawa's Four Swords is a two volume manga, published by Viz as series volumes 6 and 7 on August 4 and October 6, 2009, at 9781421523323 and 9781421523330. The Japanese original is titled Four Swords Plus, Yottsu no Tsurugi Purasu, from Shogakukan beginning at 9784091496065, with the second Japanese volume at 9784091496072.

The story gives each of the four Links a distinct temperament, earnest Green, hot headed Red, calm Blue and cheerful Violet, and builds its comedy and its action from their friction as they pursue Vaati and a Shadow Link who is more than a copy. Of all the Himekawa volumes, Four Swords is the one most often cited by fans as the manga outpacing its game: the Four Swords Adventures source is a multiplayer romp, and the manga turns it into a character story about cooperation and divided selves.

Its Legendary Edition is The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords, Legendary Edition, 9781421589633, published July 11, 2017, collecting both volumes, and included in the Legendary Edition Box Set at 9781974718191. The Japanese kanzenban counterpart is recorded at 9784091421500.

Four Swords also closes the first great movement of the Viz run. After it, only three original volumes remained, Minish Cap, A Link to the Past and Phantom Hourglass, before the run ended in 2010 and Himekawa's Zelda work paused until Twilight Princess began in Japanese in 2016.

Verification for a buyer is the standard pair check for this run: part 1 at 9781421523323, part 2 at 9781421523330, or the single Legendary tome at 9781421589633. A one volume English Four Swords that is not the Legendary Edition does not exist in this bibliography.
