Zelda manga: Majora's Mask and A Link to the Past
Himekawa's Majora's Mask is a single volume manga, Viz series volume 3, published February 3, 2009, at 9781421523293, from the Japanese Shogakukan edition at 9784091496034. It compresses the game's three day cycle, its masks and its Skull Kid tragedy into one dense volume, including a backstory for the Fierce Deity's Mask that the game itself never gives and that has made this volume the most discussed of the early Himekawa books.
Himekawa's A Link to the Past is likewise a single volume, Viz series volume 9, published February 2, 2010, at 9781421523354, Japanese edition 9784091496089, titled in Japanese Kamigami no Triforce. It adapts the Super Nintendo game: the Dark World, the seven crystals, and an added thief character, Ghanti, created for the manga. It must not be confused with Shotaro Ishinomori's A Link to the Past, a different and earlier work covered on its own page; the two share a source game and a title and nothing else.
Viz paired the two volumes physically in the Legendary Edition programme: The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask and A Link to the Past, Legendary Edition, 9781421589619, published March 14, 2017, collects both single volumes in one tome, and it too sits inside the Legendary Edition Box Set at 9781974718191. The pairing is a shelving decision by the publisher, not a story connection, and this page is organised to match the object a buyer will actually meet.
As adaptations the two volumes show Himekawa at opposite tempos: Majora's Mask racing a clock its own structure imposes, A Link to the Past moving as a quest through two worlds. Together they are the middle of the original run and, in Legendary form, the second book of the five book recollected set.
Verification anchors for this page are the two single volume ISBNs above and the shared Legendary Edition ISBN. A listing offering the Legendary Edition should carry 9781421589619; a listing offering either single should carry its own number, and the Ishinomori book, 9781421575414, should never appear under either.
