Zelda manga: Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages

Viz volumes 4 and 5, 9781421523309 and 9781421523316, recollected together at 9781421589602.

The Oracle manga adapt the linked Game Boy Color games as a natural pair. Oracle of Seasons, Viz volume 4, published April 7, 2009, at 9781421523309, follows Link in Holodrum against General Onox and the captured oracle Din. Oracle of Ages, Viz volume 5, published June 2, 2009, at 9781421523316, follows him in Labrynna against Veran and the oracle Nayru, with the time travel structure of its game preserved in print form.

The Japanese editions are Shogakukan volumes beginning at 9784091496041 for Seasons, with Ages recorded at 9784091496058 in the census sources. As in the games, the two manga are designed to be read as companions: characters and consequences cross between them, and Himekawa gives the pair a shared emotional thread in Link's horse and the animals who aid him.

The Legendary Edition programme kept the pair together: The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages, Legendary Edition, 9781421589602, published January 10, 2017, collects both volumes, and forms part of the Legendary Edition Box Set, 9781974718191. Its Japanese kanzenban counterpart is recorded at 9784091421470.

Of the Himekawa run, the Oracle pair is where the manga most expands its source: the games are the series' most mechanically linked pair and among its lightest on story, so the manga's character work here is largely Himekawa's own construction. That makes these volumes a good test of a reader's taste for the team's original storytelling within adaptation.

Buying guidance mirrors the rest of the run: the two 2009 singles are the first English printings, the Legendary Edition is the uniform modern form, and the ISBNs above separate the Seasons single, the Ages single and the combined tome without ambiguity.
