Zelda manga: Twilight Princess

Eleven volumes, 2017 to 2023 in English: the mature, serialised return that dwarfs the original ten volume run.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is Himekawa's second great Zelda work: an eleven volume manga, complete in English between 2017 and 2023, adapting the GameCube and Wii game at a length no earlier Zelda manga attempted. Volume one, published March 14, 2017, is 9781421593470. The final volume eleven, published April 11, 2023, is 9781974736508. The Japanese original from Shogakukan begins at 9784091421746, with its first volume on June 24, 2016.

The scale changes the storytelling. Where the original run compressed each game into one or two volumes, Twilight Princess gives its story room: Link's life in Ordon Village before the twilight, Midna's arc, and the war for Hyrule unfold across eleven volumes with a darker, more detailed art style that tracks the source game's tone. It is the Zelda manga most often recommended to adult readers of the series.

The complete English run is also a box set: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Complete Box Set, 9781974749669, published by Viz via Simon & Schuster on September 24, 2024, contains all eleven volumes plus a collectible double sided poster. That makes Twilight Princess the only Zelda manga with both a Legendary style collected form and a complete singles box, and the box's ISBN is the identifier that separates it from an eleven volume set assembled one by one.

For a collector the choice between the box and singles is presentational rather than textual: the box guarantees uniform printings and adds the poster, while singles gathered over the 2017 to 2023 release years carry the series' publication history. Either way the anchor ISBNs above verify the run's start, end and set form.

Twilight Princess also reframes the whole bibliography. With it, Himekawa's Zelda output in English is twenty one original volumes across two runs, plus five Legendary Editions, a body of work that makes this manga line the most substantial single artist interpretation of the Zelda world in print.
