Book of Adria: a Diablo bestiary
Diablo: Book of Adria, subtitled A Diablo Bestiary, was published in hardcover in 2018 at 9781945683206, written by Robert Brooks and Matt Burns. It is the third volume of the Horadric Vault sequence and the first of the tomes published by Blizzard Entertainment rather than Insight Editions, a publisher change the census flags explicitly because listings so often get it wrong.
The conceit is the darkest of the five tomes. Adria, the witch of Tristram whose betrayals run through Diablo and Diablo III, is presented as the compiler: a creature by creature record of Sanctuary's monsters, demons and beasts, annotated in the voice of someone who studied them in order to use them. Every other tome is written by a guardian of Sanctuary; this one is written by a threat to it, and the art and marginalia play on that difference.
As a reference it is the most game useful of the set, organised by creature rather than by history, and as an object it continues the artefact design of Cain and Tyrael: aged pages, diagrams and in world illustration throughout. It was later included, with Cain, Tyrael and Lorath, in the Horadric Vault Complete Collection of 2023, 9781956916409.
There is only one English print form recorded in the census for Adria, the 2018 hardcover. No paperback ISBN is recorded, so a listing describing a Book of Adria paperback should be treated with caution and checked in hand before it is treated as a variant.
No Japanese edition of Book of Adria exists. The census verified no Japanese editions for any volume in this tome sequence.
