Dorohedoro books beyond the manga
Two companion books, and both are events: a census of the whole cast, and a mountain of paint.
The manga is 23 volumes and finished. Around it stand two companion books that collectors treat as part of the set, and both were published as occasions: one on the day the final volume landed, one as the anime launched.
THE ALL-STAR DIRECTORY
The cast, cataloguedOrigins
The All-Star Meikan began as a reader service item in the Ikki years, a character directory fans obtained through the magazine. Material like that usually vanishes. This one was expanded instead.
The Complete Edition
Dorohedoro All-Star Directory Complete Edition, 12 November 2018, the same day as volume 23: 224 pages, ISBN 978-4-09-128711-3. Character data for the whole sprawling cast, the world’s rules set down in one place, and a newly drawn bonus manga.
Why it matters
Dorohedoro’s cast runs to dozens of named figures across three realms. The Directory is the series’ own answer to its sprawl, drawn and written by Hayashida, and the only companion of its kind. It has never been published in English.
MUD AND SLUDGE
The art bookThe Japanese edition
Dorohedoro Illustrations: Mud and Sludge, 20 February 2020: 344 pages, ISBN 978-4-09-199064-8, designed by Shin Sobue. Colour pages, illustrations, sketches and paintings from across the whole run, the covers among them.
The English edition
Viz Media published it in English as a hardcover on 22 September 2026, ISBN 978-1-9747-6565-2. An art book crossing over six years late is unusual; that it crossed at all is the measure of the anime’s long tail.
THE SMALL PRINT
Exhibitions and loose pagesThe exhibition
An exhibition of Hayashida’s original drawings opened in Tokyo on 22 February 2020, alongside the anime’s launch and the art book. For an artist who works alone and exhibits rarely, it was the one public room her originals have filled.
The special chapter
On 12 February 2020, seventeen months after the ending, Monthly Shonen Sunday published a 14-page special chapter. The series was over; the author had one more short visit in her.
Also in the catalogue
Japan’s National Diet Library also records a mook titled simply Dorohedoro Hon, the Dorohedoro Book, ISBN 978-4-09-129096-0, from the anime period. This archive has not examined a copy and claims nothing beyond the catalogue record.
