The Escaflowne editions, documented
Thirty years of boxes, and the set that matters most was paid for by the fans themselves.
Escaflowne's English-language life is a clean fossil record of the anime business changing hands. Bandai Entertainment introduced it under its AnimeVillage label with subtitled VHS tapes across eight volumes (September 15 to December 15, 1998), then the uncut bilingual DVDs, then a sequence of ever-more-complete boxes as the DVD era matured. When Bandai closed in 2012 the license lapsed, until Funimation rescued it in 2013 and rebuilt it for Blu-ray in 2016.
