Fairy Tail at Twenty: Re:Fantasia
Twenty years on, he came back, and finished early enough to move the launch.
In the summer of 2026 Fairy Tail turned twenty, and Kodansha marked it the strongest way available: with new chapters by Mashima himself. Fairy Tail Re:Fantasia, a miniseries written and drawn by the original author, ran in Weekly Shōnen Magazine from July 29 to September 30, 2026, his first new Fairy Tail story since the series ended in 2017.
Even the scheduling became a Mashima story. Announced for August 5, the launch was pulled a week earlier because the manuscripts were complete sooner than the magazine expected, the same production speed, documented on its own page in this archive, still operating at age 49.
THE ANNIVERSARY, DOCUMENTED
2026The announcement
In May 2026, with Dead Rock pausing, Mashima announced a new Fairy Tail manga to mark twenty years since the series began: a miniseries he would write and draw himself, his first new Fairy Tail chapters in nine years.
Moved up a week
The launch was planned for the magazine's August 5 issue. Mashima finished so far ahead of schedule that Weekly Shōnen Magazine moved the start forward, an almost unheard-of scheduling change, and Fairy Tail Re:Fantasia began on July 29, 2026.
The run
The miniseries ran weekly to September 30, 2026, in the same magazine that had carried the original from 2006 to 2017, and was collected in a single volume on October 16, 2026, including a special edition with a postcard.
Why it belongs in the census
Re:Fantasia is not a spin-off by another hand or a sequel by storyboard: it is Mashima drawing his guild again, which makes its single volume the book that brings this archive's census to 116 and the natural last tile, for now, in this archive's gallery of the franchise.
