How is the Yu Yu Hakusho manga collected?
Yu Yu Hakusho is a finished manga: Yoshihiro Togashi published 175 chapters in Weekly Shonen Jump from December 1990 to July 1994, and Shueisha collected them into 19 tankobon volumes under the Jump Comics line. Those 19 books are the series' standard shape in every language, beginning with Yusuke's death and ending with the Demon World tournament and its quiet aftermath.
Japan later repackaged the series as a kanzenban, a complete edition of 15 larger volumes issued in 2004 and 2005. The kanzenban repaginated the chapters, restored magazine color pages in color, and, most visibly, carried entirely new cover illustrations drawn by Togashi a decade after the series ended, older and more atmospheric takes on the cast. No English publisher has licensed the kanzenban, so it remains a Japanese only upgrade and a favorite import.
Viz Media's English edition follows the tankobon: 19 paperback volumes released between 2003 and 2010, first serialized in the American Shonen Jump magazine. The translation names the attacks in English, Spirit Gun for the Rei Gun, which shaped how a generation of Western fans talks about the series. Viz reissued the series digitally and keeps the print run as the standard English shelf set.
Around the edges sit the bunkoban pocket editions in Japan and various box and bundle reissues, all slicing the same 175 chapters. None adds story: Togashi has never drawn a sequel, and the manga's only later additions are the two short stories, Two Shots and All or Nothing, written for the anime's 2018 specials and published in the final tankobon volume's later printings in some editions, a bibliographic wrinkle worth checking when a listing advertises bonus chapters.
Buying logic follows the formats: English singles for reading, Japanese tankobon for original art presentation and price, kanzenban for the definitive object with new covers. A listing count of 19 means tankobon in either language, 15 means kanzenban, and any other number deserves a closer look at what is actually in the box.
