How many chapters and volumes does Slam Dunk have?

Slam Dunk has 276 chapters. How many volumes that makes depends entirely on which Japanese edition you are holding, and all three editions are complete.

The original Jump Comics tankobon runs to 31 volumes, published from February 8, 1991 to October 3, 1996. The Jump Comics Deluxe kanzenban reassembled the story into 24 larger volumes across 2001 and 2002. The 2018 shinsoban, the newly reorganized edition, fits the same chapters into 20 volumes by cutting each book at the end of a match or a story milestone instead of at fixed chapter counts.

English readers got the 31-volume structure: Viz Media completed its edition of all 31 volumes by December 2013, after an earlier attempt by the defunct Gutsoon! Entertainment. When a listing says a volume count, the edition name tells you whether the set is whole.
