What is the Slam Dunk shinsoban, the 2018 reorganized edition?

Inoue re-cut his own manga into 20 volumes that end where the games end, then drew twenty new covers for them.

The shinsoban, formally the newly reorganized edition, is Slam Dunk as Inoue chose to re-present it in 2018. Shueisha published all 20 volumes across four months, June 1 to September 1, 2018, and every cover illustration is new work by Inoue, drawn more than two decades after the series ended.

The reorganization is structural, not cosmetic. The old 31 volumes are re-cut so each volume closes at the conclusion of a game or a major story beat, and each volume is titled for its contents, so a spine can read as a matchup, Shohoku vs. Shoyo, telling you the game inside at a glance. The first six volumes form the Team Shohoku block; the last six, volumes 15 to 20, are the Inter High tournament.

The back covers carry their own art, including characters who do not appear on the front, which makes the set a gallery as much as a reading edition. For the cover comparison this site specializes in, the shinsoban is the edition where the Japanese object and any foreign edition differ most, because no other language has reorganized the series this way.
