How Many Copies Has Frieren Sold?

Thirty-five million by January 2026, and the curve is the story.

The documented ladder: two million copies in circulation by March 2021, 5.6 million by March 2022, a jump of seven million in the two months after the anime premiered in autumn 2023, 22 million by June 2024, 30 million by July 2025, and over 35 million announced by the series' official account on January 31, 2026.

The print runs tell the same story from the publisher's side. Volume 12's first printing, 600,000 copies, was Shogakukan's second-largest of 2023–24; volume 14's, 700,000, was the publisher's largest of 2024–25.

THIRTY-FIVE MILLIONThe anime’s great-tree visual: the sales curve bent upward when the broadcast carried the manga to new readers.

THE LADDER

Circulation milestones, as announced
2021–2022
Two million by the Manga Taishō month (March 2021); 5.6 million by March 2022. A prize-winner's pace, steady and strong.
2023–2024
The anime effect: seven million copies added in two months, then 22 million by June 2024 and half-year sales charts with volumes 12 and 13 inside the national top ten.
2025–2026
Thirty million with the July 2025 return from hiatus; 32 million in October; 35 million in January 2026, with volume 15 the third-best-selling manga volume of its half-year.

WHAT THE NUMBERS MEAN

Reading a circulation figure
Circulation is not sell-through
These are copies printed and in the market, the standard Japanese industry measure, announced by the publisher and the series' official channels.
Print runs are the bet
A 700,000-copy first printing of volume 14 is Shogakukan wagering on bookstores in advance; it was the house's biggest such bet of its fiscal year.
The backlist is the asset
Every milestone re-sells volumes 1 to 11. Volume 1's English listing is routinely catalogued as "2nd and later printings," which is what a working backlist looks like.
