How many copies has One Piece sold?

Over 600 million copies published worldwide, as of March 2026.

That is Shueisha's own count, announced on the jacket band of Volume 114, released March 4, 2026: about 450 million copies in Japan and about 150 million outside it. One Piece is the best selling manga series ever published and the best selling comic series in collected volumes, and it holds the Guinness World Record for the most copies published for the same comic book series by a single author. This page keeps the ladder, the wording, and the print run records separate, because with numbers this size the wording is half the story.

THE LADDER

The publisher's milestones

December 2014: 320,866,000 copies. The figure Guinness certified in June 2015, the first time the record was set.

July 2021: 490 million copies in circulation worldwide, on Shueisha's count as reported by Anime News Network.

August 2022: over 500 million copies, announced with Volume 103. Shueisha split the figure precisely: 416,566,000 copies in Japan and 100 million copies across 60 countries and territories outside Japan, and the Guinness record was updated the same day.

March 2026: over 600 million copies, announced with Volume 114: about 450 million in Japan, about 150 million overseas. In twenty-nine years the series added its second 300 million faster than its first.

WHAT THE NUMBER COUNTS

Published, not scanned at a till

Shueisha reports copies published, and clarified in 2022 that its figures include both print and digital copies. That is the honest label for every rung of the ladder above: these are publisher circulation figures, the strongest record available for manga, not point of sale scans. The Guinness entry itself keeps its own frozen wording and figure: 416,566,000 copies printed and circulated from December 1997 to July 2022, certified on the record's own page. The record title has not changed since 2015. Only the number has.

Annual charts tell a second, smaller story. On Oricon's yearly rankings, One Piece stood at the top of Japanese manga for years, until Demon Slayer took the annual crown in 2019 and 2020, a run this Library documents on its Demon Slayer page. Losing the annual chart while passing 500 million copies is not a contradiction. It is what a twenty-nine year backlist does.

THE PRINT RUN RECORD

First printings, in Japan

The single volume record is its own Japanese publishing landmark. Volume 57, released March 4, 2010, carried a first printing of about 3 million copies, the largest first printing for any book in Japanese publishing history at that time. Volume 67, released in August 2012, broke the series' own record with a first printing of about 4.05 million copies. And the streak underneath is the quiet marvel: from Volume 57 to Volume 114, 58 consecutive volumes have each opened with a first printing above 3 million copies, as Mantan Web tallied at the 600 million announcement.

Why collectors care
Print figures this large cut both ways. Ordinary One Piece volumes will never be scarce. What stays scarce is the early material printed before the scale arrived: the 1997 debut issue, the first Romance Dawn drafts, and the first printings from the years when a volume's first run was counted in the hundreds of thousands, not millions.
