How Many Fire Emblem Games Are There?

Eighteen core games: fifteen originals and three remakes, across thirty-six years and nine Nintendo platforms.

Counts of Fire Emblem vary because counters disagree about remakes, broadcasts, and spin-offs, so this page shows its work. The core line below follows the series' own count as recorded in its reference histories: eighteen core entries, of which fifteen are original games and three are remakes. The spin-off shelf is listed separately, and the one famous ghost gets a tile of its own.

THE CORE LINE

By hardware era
Famicom · 2
Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light (1990) and Gaiden (1992). The founding pair, Japan-only in their day.
Super Famicom · 3
Mystery of the Emblem (1994), Genealogy of the Holy War (1996), Thracia 776 (1999). Kaga's trilogy of escalating ambition, none localized.
Game Boy Advance · 3
The Binding Blade (2002), The Blazing Blade (2003), The Sacred Stones (2004). The handheld pivot, and the door to the West.
GameCube and Wii · 2
Path of Radiance (2005) and Radiant Dawn (2007). The Tellius diptych, the last console pair before the lean years.
DS remakes · 2
Shadow Dragon (2008) and New Mystery of the Emblem (2010). Two of the three remakes in the count, both returns to Archanea.
3DS · 3
Awakening (2012), Fates (2015), and Echoes: Shadows of Valentia (2017), the third remake. The era that saved, then globalized, the series.
Switch · 2
Three Houses (2019) and Engage (2023). A co-developed reinvention and a deliberate anniversary throwback.
Switch 2 · 1
Fortune's Weave (2026), the eighteenth core entry and the series' current frontier.

THE SPIN-OFF SHELF

Counted separately, as they should be
BS Fire Emblem: Archanea Saga · 1997
Satellaview broadcast episodes. Occasionally counted by Intelligent Systems itself as mainline, which is one reason census numbers wobble. Shelved with the Archanea games in this archive.
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE · 2015
The Atlus crossover: a Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem collision set in modern Tokyo's entertainment industry. Encore edition on Switch in 2020.
Fire Emblem Heroes · 2017
The mobile summoning game, and by Sensor Tower's estimates the most lucrative object in the series' history. Its economics are shelved separately in this archive.
Fire Emblem Warriors · 2017, and Three Hopes · 2022
Omega Force's musou treatments: a crossover roster first, then a full alternate retelling of the Fódlan war.
Fire Emblem Shadows · 2025
A mobile social-deduction spin-off, the newest and smallest shelf on this page, and evidence the series now experiments at the edges again.

THE GHOST

The game that is not in the count

Fire Emblem 64 was in development for the Nintendo 64 and its 64DD add-on, set in the Archanea world, and was cancelled as the hardware plan collapsed; its staff and lessons fed into The Binding Blade's reinvention on the Game Boy Advance. Every census of this series has a phantom limb, and it is this one: the console epic that would have bridged Kaga's departure and the handheld era, and instead became a footnote the GBA games answer.
