How to collect Dorohedoro

A finished series with no deluxe edition: the collecting game is printings, not variants.

Dorohedoro is a kind shelf to collect and a narrow one. The manga is complete in a single edition in each language, there is no deluxe reissue to chase, and the interest lives in which printing you hold and in the two companion books. Here is the shape of the set.

THE JAPANESE RUN

23 volumes, one label
The set
All 23 volumes are Ikki Comix, 2002 to 2018. Covers, dates and ISBNs for every volume are on the census page of this archive. A complete run is uniform on the shelf: same trim, same label, twenty-three painted spines of colour.
The colophon test
For a first printing, open the back of the book. Japanese colophons list the edition date and then each printing beneath it. A first printing shows the original date with nothing after it. The last page outranks the cover, the obi and the seller.
The gap to expect
Volume 20 took twenty months to follow volume 19, while the series changed magazines. Early Ikki-era printings of the middle volumes are the run’s scarcer objects, because the audience grew later than the print runs did. Stated as a tendency, not a price: this archive does not deal in values.

THE ENGLISH RUN

Complete, and patient
The set
Viz Media, 23 volumes, 2010 to 2019, in the large Ikki trim. The story is one continuous thread, so the set wants to be read, and bought, in order.
Printings, again
Many volumes exist in second or later printings, and the run cycles in and out of stock. A full English set is a patience game rather than a rarity game: assemble it volume by volume as reprints land, and check the copyright page the same way as the Japanese colophon.

THE COMPANIONS AND THE LOOSE ENDS

Completing the shelf
The two books
The All-Star Directory Complete Edition (2018, Japanese only) and Mud and Sludge (2020 in Japanese, 2026 in English) are the shelf’s two satellites. The art book is the single most beautiful object the series produced.
The living series
Dai Dark continues in Monthly Shonen Sunday and in Seven Seas’ English editions. A Dorohedoro shelf with Dai Dark beside it is a shelf that is still growing.
The discs
The anime’s Japanese Blu-ray boxes hold six short bonus episodes that streaming does not carry, the only Dorohedoro stories locked to a physical edition.
