What crossovers has Monster Hunter done?

More than almost any series its size, in both directions: its monsters visit other worlds, and other worlds’ heroes come to hunt.

The most improbable came first in spirit: in 2010, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker sent Snake to hunt Rathalos and Tigrex on a secret island, while Portable 3rd answered with Snake and Boss outfits for its hunters and Felyne comrades dressed as soldiers. The exchange set the template, crossovers as mutual respect between Japanese giants, played completely straight.

The biggest is the two-way bridge with Final Fantasy XIV: in 2018, World received the Behemoth as a full hunt while XIV gained a Rathalos trial, gear flowing both directions; Wilds and XIV renewed the pact in 2025 with the Omega Planetes hunt and Guardian Arkveld. Capcom also welcomed Geralt of Rivia into World in 2019 for a full Witcher questline, placed Rathalos in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as boss and Assist Trophy, dressed hunters as Link in the Nintendo editions, and let brands from Uniqlo to Pizza Hut into the Japanese games.

A GUEST FROM NOVIGRADThe Ancient Leshen, The Witcher's visitor in World (2019) — one stop on a crossover road that also runs through Final Fantasy XIV and Super Smash Bros.

SELECTED EXCHANGES

Both directions
Peace Walker × Portable 3rd · 2010
Konami’s soldiers hunt Capcom’s dragons; Capcom’s cats wear Konami’s uniforms. Still the crossover fans cite first, for sheer improbability.
Final Fantasy XIV × World / Wilds · 2018, 2025
The only crossover the series has run twice, and at full scale both times: permanent content, not a costume drop.
The Witcher 3 × World · 2019
Geralt arrived with his own contract, dialogue, and a Leshen to kill, voiced and written as himself. A guest appearance with a quest designer’s respect.
