How many copies has Monster Hunter sold?

About 132 million copies across the series, and one game, World, accounts for nearly a quarter of them.

Capcom’s cumulative series total passed 100 million units in March 2024, twenty years after the first game, and stood at 131 million by June 2026, rising past 132 million that autumn. Monster Hunter: World is the company’s best-selling single title of all time: 22.4 million copies on Capcom’s base-game count, or 30.4 million including the Iceborne Master Edition bundle, the basis Capcom itself used for its 30-million announcement.

The chart has a strange shape. Every pre-2018 release sits at or below 5.4 million (Generations Ultimate), and every modern giant sits at or above 11.8 million (Wilds). Nothing in twenty-two years has landed in between: the series has a handheld era and a global era, and an empty canyon where the middle should be.

THE TOP OF THE CHART

Capcom figures, June 2026
World · 22.4 million (30.4 with Master Edition)
Capcom’s best-selling game, full stop. It has sold over a million copies every year since 2018, a tail almost no action game matches.
Rise · 19.3 million, then 20
The Switch-first entry kept climbing through its multi-platform afterlife; Capcom announced it had passed 20 million in October 2026.
Iceborne · 16.7 million
An expansion that outsells most series. Sunbreak, Rise’s expansion, follows at 11.9 million, and Wilds at 11.8 million after its record launch.
Generations Ultimate · 5.4 million
The biggest game of the old era, and the ceiling of it. Below it: Portable 3rd at 4.9 million, sold almost entirely inside Japan.
The PSP and 3DS ledger
Freedom Unite 3.8 million, Monster Hunter 4 at 4.1 and 4 Ultimate at 4.2, Tri at 1.9. Respectable hits, all of them, from a series the West still treated as a niche.
The missing originals
The three PS2 games never received published figures at all. Capcom’s list only counts million-sellers, and the games that started everything are not on it.
