What are the My Hero Academia stage plays?
Four productions: the story in a theatre, Quirks and all.
Japan’s 2.5-dimensional stage tradition claimed the series early. My Hero Academia: The “Ultra” Stage opened in 2019, adapting the story’s beginning with a cast performing the Quirks live. It became a returning production line: A True Hero followed, its 2020 run postponed by COVID-19 and restaged in December 2021; The Symbol of Peace in 2022; and The Best Hero in 2023, four productions in five years.
The stage line belongs to the same expansion wave as the exhibitions and the theme-park attraction: in the franchise’s peak years, the story existed simultaneously as manga, anime, film, game, novel, and live performance. The exhibitions that carried the art itself are on the exhibitions page.

THE FOUR PRODUCTIONS
2019 to 2023The “Ultra” Stage (2019)
The premiere production: the entrance exam, the school, and the first villains, with practical stagecraft standing in for superpowers.
A True Hero (2020–21)
The second production, announced for 2020, postponed by the pandemic, and finally staged in December 2021: the run that proved the line’s resilience.
Symbol of Peace & Best Hero
2022 and 2023: the third and fourth productions, following the story deeper into its middle arcs as the manga approached its end.
THE LIVE LAYER
Why the stage matters here2.5-dimensional theatre
The Japanese form that adapts manga and anime wholesale: cast in costume, effects in camera and light. The franchise’s stage line is a model example of the genre.
The peak-years map
2019 to 2023 is also the span of the biggest films, the Drawing Smash exhibition, and the Universal Studios attraction: the live layer was a strategy, not a sideline.
The record
Stage productions leave programs, discs, and ephemera rather than episodes: the Library documents the four runs so the layer is not lost to the broadcast record.
