Final Fantasy Resonance, a Lost Game Rescued in HD-2D, Tops Japan's Physical Chart

Square Enix launched Final Fantasy Resonance on October 22, 2026 for Switch 2, Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It is the first Final Fantasy built in the HD-2D style, and what it rebuilds is the interesting part: the first season of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, a mobile game that has already shut down.
Mobile games that close usually take their stories with them. Resonance instead takes Brave Exvius's first season and rebuilds it extensively as a single-purchase console RPG, a game you buy once and own, on a disc or card, in a way the original never was.
Japan answered immediately. Per Famitsu data reported by Gematsu, Resonance was the top new game in Japan in its opening week, selling 133,191 physical copies across its three console versions. Not downloads. Physical copies, counted at retail.
A lost Final Fantasy rescued into a physical console release that immediately tops the Japanese physical chart shows the collector appetite for classic-style FF on real media. This is the Terranigma pattern running in the present tense: preservation and physical ownership are the same instinct, and right now the market is rewarding it.
