What Ranma 1/2 merchandise should collectors know?

Period Kitty era goods, a quiet 2000s, and a strong MAPPA era wave of figures and apparel; era sorting and art source are the buyer's main checks.

Ranma's first merchandise era matches the 1989 anime's run: capsule toys, plush of the cursed animal forms, especially P-chan, Ryoga's pig form, stationery, telephone cards and the CD and video catalog. These goods use Atsuko Nakajima's anime designs, and their packaging, Kitty Films era licensing marks and all, dates them reliably.

The 2000s were quieter, with the property kept alive by home video reissues, occasional prize figures and Takahashi anniversary projects. Goods from this gap are scarcer in the market simply because fewer were made, a pattern collectors of 1990s anime properties will recognize across many titles.

The 2024 remake opened a third era. New scale and prize figures of Ranma in both forms, Akane, Shampoo and the animal cast arrived with MAPPA era designs and modern manufacturing, alongside apparel collaborations and cafe events in Japan. As with the manga's editions, the art source is the tell: Takahashi originals, Nakajima models and MAPPA designs mark three different products that listings sometimes blur.

Fakes and reissues need the usual care. Popular figures attract unlicensed copies with softer paint and missing license marks, and period goods are sometimes sold with remake era packaging claims. Checking the copyright line, the manufacturer and the design source against reference photos resolves most questions before money moves.

The shelf logic that emerges: one Takahashi art anchor, such as a first volume or art book, a small Kitty era group for the vintage screen run, and selective remake figures for the current era. Ranma merchandise rewards that kind of era curation far more than bulk buying.
