Tales at thirty: what is next for the series?
The series turned thirty on December 15, 2025, and Bandai Namco spent the anniversary making the back catalogue playable again. The Tales Remastered Project, announced in late 2024, had already delivered Graces f Remastered in January 2025 and Xillia Remastered in October 2025 before the anniversary year closed. Tales of Berseria Remastered followed on February 27, 2026.
The biggest restoration so far arrived on October 16, 2026: Tales of Eternia Remastered, the first of the project's releases to reach back to the PlayStation era. For Western collectors it carries a bonus no spec sheet lists. North America only ever knew this game under the borrowed name Tales of Destiny II; the remaster sells it worldwide under its real title at last.
Producer Yusuke Tomizawa has been open about how the order is chosen: feasibility and source code availability outrank chronology, with multiple remasters prepared in parallel and released as they are finished. He has said the project's focus in 2026 shifts to older classics. Famitsu has reported a remaster of Xillia 2 in development, and the remaining great absentees, the Destiny remake, Rebirth and the Abyss, are the names every announcement season now circles.
Beyond the restorations, a new main entry is in development, unnamed and undated. The shape of the next five years is therefore already visible: the mothership line continues forward while the Remastered Project works backward, and the Japanese shelf and the Western shelf get closer with every release.
