Tales of Graces vs Graces f: what is the difference?
Tales of Graces launched on Wii in Japan on December 10, 2009, a bright Inomata-designed adventure built around Asbel Lhant and a battle system that swaps styles instead of managing a magic meter. It also shipped with serious bugs that Nintendo-era buyers documented at length and later printings addressed, a rough start for one of the series' best combat systems. The Wii version never left Japan.
The PlayStation 3 version, Tales of Graces f (December 2, 2010), is the expanded form the series is known for. The 'f' stands for 'future', and it is a content claim: Graces f adds Lineage and Legacies, a full epilogue arc set months after the main ending, with new story, skits, dungeons and a playable return for the whole cast, alongside system additions like the Accel gauge. North America received this version on March 13, 2012, and Europe that August.
Because the West only knows the f version, Western Graces and Japanese Graces are quietly different games, and Japanese Wii-era guidebooks document an original that English guide coverage never touched. When Tales of Graces f Remastered arrived in January 2025 as the first release of the Remastered Project, it remastered the f version, keeping the epilogue as standard.
For the collector, the Wii original is the interesting object: a Japan-only mothership edition of a game the rest of the world knows only in expanded form, bugs and all, and the last mothership title Nintendo hardware ever premiered.
