The History of Attack on Titan
In 2006, a twenty-year-old Hajime Isayama from Ōyama, Ō’ita, won a Fine Work prize in Kodansha’s Magazine Grand Prix for a short version of Attack on Titan. He offered the series to Weekly Shōnen Jump, was advised to reshape it to suit the magazine, declined, and took it to Kodansha instead. It launched in the very first issue of the new monthly Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in September 2009 and ran for eleven and a half years.
The manga won the shōnen category of the Kodansha Manga Award in 2011, got a Wit Studio anime in 2013 that carried it worldwide, and finished on 9 April 2021 with chapter 139; the 34th and final volume followed that June. By November 2023 the series had 140 million copies in circulation. This shelf documents the object itself: the covers, the editions, the anime’s two-studio life, the games, and the spinoffs that grew around it.
