Trails Beyond the Horizon, and the road to the ending

The newest chapter of the main line, and, unusually for this industry, the end is already on the calendar.

Kai no Kiseki was released in Japan in September 2024 as the third Calvard game, continuing Van Arkride's story and pulling the saga's longest threads, Ouroboros' endgame, the Septian Church, the truth of Zemuria itself, toward the surface. NIS America released it in English in January 2026, still carrying the full The Legend of Heroes banner, unlike the Sky remakes, which dropped the prefix for the first time in the series' Western history. One further game is planned to close the Calvard arc.

What makes Horizon's position unique is how much of the future Falcom has put on the record. President Toshihiro Kondo said in 2018 that the saga's endpoint had been decided around the time of the first Sky game; that the story passed 60% at Cold Steel IV; and in a 2024 interview he put the figure at roughly 90%. In March 2026, Falcom confirmed the endgame schedule itself: the final Trails game is planned to be announced in 2031, the company's fiftieth anniversary, and released in 2032, twenty-eight years after Estelle Bright first walked out of Rolent. Few long-running series in any medium publish their own closing date; this Library documents the road there as it happens.
