Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter: the remakes, documented

Falcom went back to page one, and for the first time in its history, the world read it on the same day.

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter was released worldwide on September 19, 2025 for Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and PC, a ground-up remake of the 2004 original, built in the Falcom Developer Kit engine of the Daybreak games. Everything presentational is new: full 3D Liberl with seamless town-to-field transitions, full voice acting in Japanese and English, and a hybrid battle system offering real-time "quick battles" alongside the series' command battles. The script, the towns and Falcom's NPC discipline are the 2004 game's own. In the West the remake is published by GungHo Online Entertainment in North America, and it is the first entry in the entire Legend of Heroes line to drop the "Legend of Heroes" prefix from its Western title.

The remake launched the series' modern era commercially as well as critically: Trails passed nine million copies around its release and ten million a year later, after Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter, the equivalent rebuild of SC, adding the new Brave Rush quick-battle system, followed worldwide on September 17, 2026. Together the two remakes are now the recommended front door to the saga, and the remaining question of the line is whether the 3rd receives the same treatment. GungHo's North American physical programme, including the Steelbook and Bracer editions sold through Limited Run Games, is recorded on the collecting page.

Falcom treated the remake as a re-introduction, not a replacement: the original PC trilogy remains on sale beside it in English.
