What are Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time, Darkness and Sky?
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness, developed by Chunsoft and released in Japan on September 13, 2007 and in North America on April 20, 2008, continue the Mystery Dungeon formula: you play not a trainer but a human who has woken up as a Pokémon, answering a personality quiz at the start to decide which one. With your partner you join Wigglytuff's Guild, take rescue and exploration jobs from the boards, and crawl randomly laid-out dungeons floor by floor.
The story is why this pair is remembered above the series' other spin-offs. Time is stopping, region by region, as the Time Gears are stolen, and the plot that follows, involving a time-travelling Grovyle and the fate of the future itself, is regularly named the finest storytelling the franchise had produced to that point. The pair contain 491 of the era's Pokémon; Shaymin and Arceus are absent, not yet revealed when the games were made.
Explorers of Sky, released in Japan on April 18, 2009 and in North America on October 12, 2009, is the enhanced edition, the Platinum of the pair. It restores Shaymin and adds Giratina's Origin Forme, opens Shaymin Village and the climb up Sky Peak, and adds a statue of Arceus waiting at the top of the 99-floor Destiny Tower.
